The 2016 edition of the Fairlington 5K moved to a redesigned website. This page summarizes what it said about the event, which was scheduled for April 23, 2016.
The mission
As in earlier years, the run and walk was described as non-competitive and family friendly. It was hosted by the neighborhood elementary school and the Fairlington Citizens Association. The goal was to promote health and physical fitness while bringing neighbors together for a good cause.
Who benefited
Proceeds were directed to a charity supporting research into a rare genetic condition affecting a local child, and to two school programs: physical education and literacy. The archived page contained a video about the charity, which is not reproduced here.
The day itself
Participants would complete a five-kilometer route around the neighborhood, followed by games, prizes and activities. Local businesses and organizations donated T-shirts and prizes. Unlike the 2015 version, the page did not mention a separate one-mile route in its description, although the registration pages did list one.
The organizers
The archive credits two physical education teachers from the host school and a representative of the citizens association. They thanked the community for continued support and said the event would help children and strengthen neighborhood bonds.
Sponsors
A banner on every page thanked sponsors, including school programs, the PTA and business partners. Their logos took up much of the image set on the site and are not repeated here.
