The 2016 edition of the Fairlington 5K used a straightforward sign-up flow, which the archived site summarized on a single page. This overview explains the structure without the prices. Sign-up is closed and cannot be done through this site.
Two events, two sign-ups
Entrants chose either the five-kilometer race or the one-mile fun run and walk. Each had its own set of rates, with separate prices for adults and children between six and sixteen.
Early-bird deadline
The 5K had a discounted early-bird period that ended on March 1. After that date a higher standard rate applied. The one-mile event used a single rate. Children five and under were free.
The entry list
A public list of registered participants was available on the registration page so neighbors could see who had signed up. Such lists build excitement and let friends check each other’s progress.
Additional information
The page pointed to a “more information” section that repeated the date, time and location, and again thanked the sponsors who made the event possible.
Things to know
- Check the deadline early, since discounted rates ended weeks before the race
- Register everyone in the family at once if possible
- Confirm shirt sizes, which are often fixed after a cut-off date
Organizers of similar races often use early-bird pricing to estimate turnout, order the right number of shirts and spread out their workload before race week.
For the full schedule, read race details. For earlier-year processes, see the 2015 registration page.
