The Fairlington 5K relied on community generosity. Money raised was directed to a related charity and to the host elementary school. This page explains the recognition structure the organizers used in 2015. The event has ended, and donations are not collected here.

Recognition tiers
The archive described a ladder of support levels, each with its own perks:
- Friend levels. Smaller gifts from individuals, acknowledging support for the charity and the school.
- Bronze. The donor’s name appeared in the school newsletter, which goes to all parents and staff, and on the sponsor page of the website.
- Silver. A small-print name on the back of the official race shirt, plus mentions in both the school and the neighborhood newsletters and on the sponsor page.
- Gold. A large-print name on the shirt, a sponsorship plaque and the same newsletter and website mentions.
- Platinum. The highest tier added a booth at the event, a set of shirts and a plaque on top of the Gold benefits.
Silent auction
Local businesses and residents were also invited to donate items for a silent auction, using a donation form. Proceeds from the event went to the charity and the school.
