The 2016 race was surrounded by smaller events during the same week. The archive lists three, each aimed at raising money or making race weekend easier.

Silent auction

On the evening of Friday, April 15, the community center in Fairlington hosted a silent auction. Items donated by local businesses and residents were open for bidding. Proceeds were to go to the charity supporting the child at the heart of the fundraising and to the school’s parent-teacher association.

Packet pickup

Participants could collect their race materials on the Thursday and Friday before the run, between late afternoon and early evening, at the host school.

Charity yoga

On race morning, a neighborhood craft brewery partnered with the 5K to hold a one-hour, all-levels vinyasa class right after the run. The class was open to runners and non-runners. Part of the ticket price went to the charity, and the ticket included a first draft beer. Participants were asked to bring their own mats and the number of places was limited.
